camping in the Fall

Everything is better when done in the Fall. The kids didn't have school on Friday so we decided to take a little camp trip before it got too too cold. I say 2 "too's" because it was still cold at night. We live really close to a canyon and so we only camped about 20 minutes from our house. But the leaves were so pretty, there was hardly anyone there (so my loud children didn't disturb anyone) and the kids loved it which made the cold night totally worth it. We collected some colored leaves from the ground and I'd like to frame them because I think that makes a cute little decoration. We had tin foil dinners, went hiking and threw sticks and rocks in the river and then the kids would try to run faster than the object. My favorite part was after I had put Charlotte to bed, we were all siting around the fire and one of the kids suggested that we sing songs. Instead we started to tell stories. It was cute and so funny when the kids would tell a story that was usually exactly like ours and they would try to use a scary voice. All in all, some nice family time that we don't get often enough.

the big red barn

or the apple orchards. Abbeys school took their monthly field trip down to the big red barn. I love this place, it's a perfect Fall activity, pumpkin patch, crisp apples fresh from the tree and cool air. I pulled Cloe and Brody out of school for a few hours so they could come, that's how much I love Fall and how much I enjoy going to the orchards. I wanted to make sure they also experienced the joy.
We took a hay ride to the apple orchards and then got out and walked across the orchards where the tractor picked us up. Back at the barn, we had apple donuts.

I seem to always be promoting my friends, but I can't help it, I have talented friends. We got family pictures yesterday and I was so excited for the big event. I had my birthday money all saved up :) This time ryan and I decided to make an appearance, why don't we just keep it to the cute kids. But my friend did an amazing job and now I can check Christmas cards off my list!

too much zucchini on your hands

I have one plant that consistently produces zucchini and I can't keep up with it. My cooking doesn't vary enough to keep me from getting sick of zucchini (but luckily it's a veggie my family loves) so I'm going to give this recipe a try. If you try it, leme know what you think.

the melting pot

For the times we went hiking this summer, I either borrowed a backpack to carry Charlotte, carried her in my arms or tried to tie her on with my sling. Until about a week ago I decided it was time to get one of my own. I'd like to continue hiking with the kids during the Fall and then want to try carrying her on my back while I snow shoe this winter. But didn't want to buy a new one, too many other things on my "list" that I'd rather have. Well, while surfing Ksl classifieds, I found a Kelty child carrier, kids seat for the front of a bike, car seat and protective rail for a bed, all for $35!!!! I just took the carrier and the bike seat. I was so excited when it was time to go pick it up, it's hard to find good deals like that around here, people tend to try and get as much as they possibly can out of their old stuff.
Sportin the new pack, can't wait to use it!!

My brother stopped by for a few days on his way to Yellowstone and Charlotte loved her cousin Gavin. He was nice enough to share his food with her.

Charlottle always gives me this cheesy grin and I LOVE it. Let's see, what else does she do that I just can't get enough of? She is so good at the kids soccer games. She either sits on my lap or crawls around by my chair and just chills. She loves giving kisses now. And she always slips the tongue. She waves good-bye, knows the sign for "milk" and loves to be outside.

Brody broke his collar bone AGAIN!! I was really sad when it was official that it was broken because i really enjoy watching him play soccer and now he might be out for the rest of the season. Cloe has improved a ton this year and scored her first goal on Saturday. I have to coach next year. I just sit on the sideline, with my legs crossed, shaking my leg to control the urges I have to yell out instructions and coach the team. I thought I could just sit back and enjoy whether the coach had played before or not, apparently I can't. Last year Cloe was taught that fullbacks were "goalie guards" and her coach this year, although very nice, tells them they are playing "in field" for forwards/offense.
Abbey scored her second goal on Saturday. She gets shy and kind of embarrassed but at the same time super stoked when she get to play and kick the ball around. 3 different teams, 4 days a week of games but I love to watch them play that it doesn't seem like a hassle at all.

I almost done with Jillian Michaels book "Making the Cut", I'm on Day 21 of 30. I'm seeing results and it's nice to feel strong. I signed up for my last triathlon of the season. First of November, and I'm excited. I actually drove by the big bike hill today and it was bigger and longer than I remember, so now slightly nervous.

If you live in Utah, you need to eat at Pizzeria 712, so tasty. The atmosphere adds to it as well.

eggplants, watermelon and tomatoes should be ready to harvest soon. I've already picked plenty of cherry tomatoes, basil and zucchini. I'm not looking forward for this warm weather to end!! ugh, to winter! But I love Fall.

Ryan's friend just moved to Florence and so we've been talking about it a lot and looking at pictures and I'm feeling really nostalgic. I loved it there, especially this time of year. I feel like there is something missing in my life. Something that I had there that I don't seem to have here. Can't quite put my thumb on it, but I need to.

lately I"ve had the desire to start a business but no ideas.

I think this post is about as random as they come, peace out.

book recommendation

I don't really like recommending books because I always worry about my personal taste in books differing from the common opinion. But, I'm actually going to post about this book because I really enjoyed it and I THINK that my friends will as well.
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
It was our book club book and I would've never picked it up at the library had I not been "told" to.
