you also can't have too many pictures of Palmyra, NY

Ryan has been commissioned to paint the Smith's farm in Palmyra, NY during the Fall. So, that required him to head out there a.s.a.p. while it was still Fall :) And since I had played single Mom for 5 weeks, I told him, yes told him that I was going with him. I am so glad I did because it is just amazing there. Up state New York is gorgeous, I loved it. Rolling hills with tons of trees and so much land and space between the homes. I used to think that about Utah when I moved from California but New York was even better. We stayed in Webster which was about 20 minutes from the Village of Palmyra, did you know it was called a Village? Me neither. We saw the Martin Harris Farm, the four churches, the Grandin Building where the Book of Mormon was first printed, the Hill Cumorah, the Palmyra temple, the homes that the Smith's lived in and of course the Sacred Grove. It was so amazing to see all these sites. The spirit at the farm was present and I learned so much about the Smith's and am so grateful for their example, their faith and the many sacrifices they made.
The Palmyra Temple is on the north east border of the Smith's 100 acres and it faces the Sacred Grove.

The Sacred Grove

The view from the top of the Hill Cumorah
The monument atop the Hill Cumorah
the drive up to the Hill CUmorah, so pretty.
The Smith's frame home that they built while living in the log home but later had the dead stolen and moved back to the log home. This is the original home that they lived it.
This is a replica of the log home but the foundation is the original foundation. (the white building is the visitor center. The Smith's built it before moving west as recorded in the JSH. Just kidding, but it really is the visitor center) Although it isn't the original home the spirit is still there and it is quite powerful to be in JS room where angel Moroni appeared to him. And to look out the back door where Joseph would have walked out and headed for the forest to pray after reading from James.

These trees are both "witness trees" in the Sacred Grove. They are at least 220 years old and would have been standing when Joseph Smith received the first vision. The one below used to have 12 branches jetting out but is starting to die and as you can see has far less.

This is Bob Parrot standing in front of the same "witness tree". He is the groundskeeper for the 100 acres. He has worked for the church for about 15 years and has totally changed the Sacred Grove. He grew up in Palmyra and is not LDS but is very knowledgable of the horticulture there and knows the sacredness of this forest. When he first started working, the church had it looking like a park with no under growth, everything cleared out and clean and in his words "you could see everyone who was in the sacred grove from one end to the other." He has since let nature take over and has allowed everything to grow back naturally back to how a grove of trees should look and how it would have looked when Joseph was there. He doesn't blow the leaves off the path or shovel the snow. He feels that the spirit is there more when it is left in it's natural state. And the spirit is definitely there. It was such a peaceful place and so gorgeous. He said he feels the spirit every time he walks in there and can't believe how members of our church walk through while talking on their cell phones, just hurry through looking for some sort of monument or let their children throw rock and pull on branches. So if you ever have the chance to visit the Smith's Farm and happen upon Bob, tell him "thank you" and that Ryan and Courtney Brown said "hi" :)
just another view of the farm.
and since we were in the area we decided to take a short trip to Canada and see Niagara Falls. New York is behind me.

nothing beats fresh

My friend Kristy took us to this neat raspberry patch and we picked for an hour and a half but it only seemed like 30 minutes. We ended up with 8 lbs. So far we have made raspberry ice cream, raspberry pie and I add them to my protein shakes. These raspberries were so tasty and i wish I had room in my freezer to have picked more. Cloe and Abbey were such big helpers and picked the whole time. Brody was a little distracted by his friend and Charlotte liked the trampoline and slide much more, I don't blame her.

soccer

I love watching my kids play soccer and Abbey's age has to be one of my favorites. It is entertaining and they get so proud of themselves. They all want to score so bad that they steal the ball from each other and it is so non competitive that they all have fun. This year Abbey played on the "little devils" and according to her, she scored every game and scored the most. She did do well and scored quite a bit but not as much as she has convinced herself.

Cloe moved up to an older age division this year but the challenge didn't seem to phase her. She is a really smart player on defense and offense and is really fast which makes her a good forward.

This year I coached Brody's team. After a few years of coaches that had no clue about the game, I had to coach, it drove me crazy. I thought it would be a hassle and that I was just going to suck it up and make it through the six weeks. But I ended up loving it. We had a good group of boys and everyone got along well. At our last game, I cried. These sweet boys were giving me hugs and telling my "thank you" and I couldn't help it because I was so sad that the season was over. But on to Brody, he is a fearless player. I try to give him a position to play but he couldn't resist being in the action the entire game and never seemed to get tired.

So in a nut shell and I have no shame making my pride known, my kids are really good at soccer and thank goodness because it's a sport I played and know well. But it was a relief to have the season over and to not have 6 games and 1 practice a week.

can you ever post too many pictures of Disneyland??

These are not at all in order, they are actually going from Day 7 to Day 3. We went to Disneyland on Tuesday with my dad, again on Wednesday with my brother, his wife and my nephew Gavin. Thursday we went to the beach, I love taking my kids to the beach. Friday we hung out with friends and then to Disneyland again on Saturday with my Dad. Sunday the kids and I drove back to Utah with Ryan's mom (she flew down just to drive back with me, she is a saint) and Ryan stayed in CA for 2 more weeks.
We took so many pictures at Disneyland and I'm glad we did because the little things are so easily forgotten. It is so magical there and it was a great way to spend time together.

This ferris wheel was very deceiving. It's just a ferris wheel right? No. It slides back and forth so you feel like you are going to fall.

This was one of my favorite rides. Not the actual ride but to ride it with Gavin and Charlotte made it my favorite. They were hilarious. They were cracking up together and screaming as we spun around, so precious. Pure joy on their faces.

We bought the kids autograph books and it was fun to spot characters (wait in a line) and get an autograph and picture with them.
my personal favorite. I love Mary Poppins, I want to be like her, accent and all.

Charlotte's favorite character, went back for a second hug and couldn't stop waving good bye.

It was a long wait to see Minnie
I think she likes this hat. That was an easy decision. And the mirror was a good babysitter.

The fun is about to begin. I'm thinking Christmas card photo.
